World Heritage Explorer Laos Tour

According to myth, the city of Vientiane was created by the seven headed Naga Souvannanak. Originally called “Ban Nong Khanthae Phiseuanam” village, it later became “Vientiane” town. In 1357 King Fa Ngoum held a big celebration to glorify the unification of all Lao territories. Enhancing his prestige throughout the Lane Xang Kingdom and the neighboring kingdoms, it was organised in the Pak Pasak area in present day Vientiane. In 1560, King Saysettha moved from Luang Prabang and declared Vientiane as the capital city of the Lane Xang kingdom.

This Laos vacation tour will offer you 11 memorable days in this mystical and enchanting country. From ancient archaeological sites to remarkable temples and wonderful waterfalls, this Laos trip has it all!

Itinerary

Day 1: Vientiane - Arrival

Upon arriving in Vientiane you check into your Laos holiday hotel and relax before retiring for the evening.

Day 2: Vientiane – City Tours (B/L)

Your Laos tour commences immediately after you have enjoyed your first breakfast in Vientiane. Your Laos tour guide will collect you from the hotel. Your first port of call will be Wat Sisaket with its thousands of statues of the Buddha. The official count is 6840. The Emerald Buddha, now found in Bangkok’s Wat Prakeow, used to be housed in Wat Prakeo and it is here along with Wat Simuang that we will visit next.

Lunch can be taken at one of the many superb restaurants in the city centre. The wonderful Golden stupa of That Luang is your next port of call. From there you will go to see The Triumphal Arch of Patuxai, constructed from concrete that was originally intended for the airport. It is known locally as The Vertical Runway. Your first full day finishes back at the hotel. Your Laos trip organisers have arranged your overnight stay here

Day 3: Vientiane – Buddha Park (B/L)

After your breakfast your transport awaits for your day’s tour. Your Laos trip driver will take you 30km to visit the Buddha Park. This combination of Buddhist and Hindu statues was created by a mystical monk on parkland close to The Mekong River. On the way we will stop at the famous Laos / Thai Friendship Bridge. This provides good photo opportunities. We will return to Vientiane in the late afternoon. You may now relax and enjoy a quiet evening. Your accommodation in Vientiane is arranged by your Laos tour operator.

Day 4: Vientiane – Xiengkhuoang (B)

Your final breakfast in Vientiane is again courtesy of your Laos tour package. After a free morning your Laos trip organizer will collect you from the hotel for transfer to the airport. You will make the short afternoon flight to Xiengkhouang (QV 401 at 13:30/14:00). This area was heavily bombed by American forces between 1964 and 1973. Your Laos tour guide will take you to your hotel where you will be able to relax and spend the night in Xiengkhouang.

Day 5: Around Xiengkhuoang (B/L)

After your breakfast at your new hotel your Laos holiday driver will collect you and take you to the famous Plain Of Jars. Xiangkhouang Province covers an area of 15,880 square kilometres (6,130 sq mi) and is largely mountainous. The Plain of Jars is a large area extending around Phonsavanh. Here enormous jars of unknown origin are scattered everywhere. They are carved from solid rock, some from molasse, which is like sandstone, but some from granite. Although many have been removed over the years there are still several hundred remaining. Later in the afternoon we will visit the old capital of Muang Khoun and its nearby villages. The Hmong hill-tribe and the Tai Dam people have colourful customs and history. Your Laos tour has arranged your overnight stay in Phonsavanh.

Day 6: Xienkhuoang – Luang Prabang (B/L)

An early start after your breakfast will see us visit the Central Market of Phonsavanh. Here the local hill-tribes gather to barter and exchange their merchandise. Leaving here we make the 306 km journey to Luang Prabang. On the way we will stop and visit the site at Thampra. Here the Buddha images date back about 200 years. We will also visit various hill-tribe villages along the route. We will take a short coffee break at Sala Phoukhoun. This is where the provinces of Vientiane, Xiengkhouang and Luang Prabang meet. We will then arrive at our destination city, Luang Prabang. This city is extremely beautiful and culturally important. Your Laos tour advisor has arranged overnight accommodation.

Day 7: Luang Prabang – City Tours (B/L)

Your Laos tour organisers have again arranged breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast you will see Wat Visoun with its impressive stupa and the shrine of Wat Aham. At Wat Xieng Thong we will show you the famous “Tree Of Life” mosaic. The architecture here is typical of the Luang Prabang style with its low sweeping rooftops. Next you will walk up the 355 steps to the summit of Mount Phousi. At the half way point you will see the Wat Tham Phousi shrine and at the summit you will visit the gilded stupa. Your Laos trip affords spectacular views of the city and The Mekong River. After descending, you will be taken to visit Hmong Market affording plenty of opportunities for purchasing souvenirs. Your first full day in Luang Prabang ends with an overnight stay at your hotel, arranged by your Laos tour guide.

Day 8: Luang Prabang - Kuang Sii Falls (B/L)

Once again your day begins with breakfast at the hotel, provided by your Laos tour. Shortly afterward we will make the 30 km journey to the magnificent Kuang Sii Falls. Your time is your own to relax or swim in the beautiful warm waters. If you wish you may make the easy trek up to the top of the falls. After returning we will go to the Black Hmong Village. Here the hill tribe people live an extremely traditional lifestyle. Handmade souvenirs can be bought and following this visit we will return you to your hotel. Again your overnight stay, courtesy of this Laos trip, is here.

Day 9: Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves (B/L)

Day 9 begins with breakfast at your hotel before your Laos tour guide takes you to The Mekong River to enjoy a cruise through magnificent countryside to the famous Pak Ou Caves. On the way we will take you to visit Ban Xanghai village. This is well known for its distillation of the local rice wine. We then travel on to the Pak Ou Caves. Crammed full of golden lacquered statues of the Buddha, they make a spectacular sight. On the return journey we will escort you on a short drive to Ban Zang Khong. Here local people expertly hand weave delightful silk materials. The day ends with your Laos tour returning to your hotel for the overnight stay.

Day 10: Luang Prabang - Ban Ann Elephant Camp (B/L)

Your Laos trip organizers have again provided your breakfast at the hotel before your Laos tour driver takes you to visit the elephant camp at Ban Ann. On the way we take in the weaving village of Ban Phom Nom. Some of the weavers here are former garment makers to the last King of Laos. Next we visit Henri Mouhot’s monument at Kang Noon. Henri Mouhot discovered Angkor Wat in Cambodia. He moved to Laos, contracted malaria and died in 1861. No Laos holiday would be complete without seeing elephants. Here you experience them in totally surroundings. Many have been rescued and their story will be explained by staff at the camp. You can take a short ride and even help to bathe them in the nearby Karn River. We then return to Luang Prabang, where your day will end with an overnight stay at your hotel, once again courtesy of your Laos Tour.

Day 11: Luang Prabang – Departure (B)

The final day of your Laos Holiday is free time spent at your hotel until your Laos tour guide arrives to transport you to the airport to commence your onward journey. We wish you safe travels and a fond farewell. Laos Tour Packages can arrange additional customized trips for you should you require it.

Tour the end.
